Isabel Smith, 103, of Murphy passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 in a Murphy medical center. She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. She was a homemaker and was of the Church of God faith.
She was the daughter of the late “J.U.” and Mary Isabel Radford Farmer and the wife of the late William H. Smith, who passed away Oct. 12, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Ray Smith.
Surviving are a brother, Glen Farmer of Murphy; six grandchildren, Darla Hicks and Michael Smith both of Marble, Daryl Smith and Steven Smith both of Murphy, and Lisa Brady and Stephanie Weismantel both of Gainesville, GA; eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, Dec. 11 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Richard Roberson officiating. Interment was in the Unaka Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eddie Farmer, Glen Roberts, Gordon Hall, Glen Crowe, James Brady, and Phil Keller.
The family received friends from 1:00-2:45 Friday afternoon at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Isabel Smith to the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home Activities Department, 3990 E. US Hwy 64 Alt., Murphy, NC 28906.
