
Mary Lou Duncan, 70, of Murphy died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at her residence. She was a native of Macon County, but had lived most of her life in Cherokee County. She was owner and operator of Duncan’s Beauty Shop. Mary Lou was a member of Tomotla Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Clyde Gwin and Eulee Bertie Douthit Allen and the wife of the late Harold D. Duncan, who died January 15, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Meredith Stalcup.
Surviving are her daughter, Jill Stalcup and husband, Mark of Murphy; a step-son, Harold Dean Duncan and wife, Karen of Bakersville, NC; and a grandson, Nickolas Stalcup.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 29 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Harold Stiles and Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Interment was in Old Martins Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Flip Watson, Eric Sneed, Dwayne Hogsed, and Larry, Lonnie, and Jason Stalcup. Honorary pallbearers were George Worley, Joey Reid, Robert Stillwell, Carl Auvil, Bobby Barton, Richard Pullium, Bob Temple, David Alverson, Royce Hughes, Jonathan Watson, Jerry Angel, Roy Pipes, and David Hatcher.
The family received friends from 12-1:45 Thursday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Mary Lou Duncan to the Old Martins Creek Cemetery, c/o Janet Stiles, 2299 Martins Creek Road, Murphy, NC 28906.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I remember her from the beauty shop when I was a little girl. My mother was still going to her when she could for hair cuts. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
