
Glen A. Buchholz, 81, of Murphy passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012. He was a native of Wisconsin, where he was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Ripon College and received his MBA from Marquette University. Glen had lived in Wilbraham, Mass. for more than 30 years, where he was a longtime elected official to several positions. While in Wilbraham, Glen worked for Heublein, Inc. before retiring in 1988. He moved to Murphy in 2000. Glen had served as president and grant writer of The Sharing Center and on the board for the Hulbert-Johnson Friendship House. He was active with his church affiliations. Glen volunteered much of his time at the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home Alzheimer Unit. He was a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Church. Glen was an avid golfer, artist, and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and woodworking. He also was an avid Packers, Red Sox, and University of Wisconsin fan. Glen was a devoted husband, dedicated family man, and proud grandfather.
He was the son of the late Harvey Benjamin and Inez Ruth Tuttle Buchholz. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ned Buchholz.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Norma L. Buchholz; a daughter, Judy Coleman and husband Bill of Murphy; two sons, Brad Buchholz and wife Debbie of Andover, Mass., and Bruce Buchholz and wife Susan of Granby, Conn.; a sister, Carol Buchholz of Wauwatosa, Wis., and seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Glen also remained very close to his extended family in Wisconsin.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2012 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Al Beck officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Ripon, Wisconsin.
The family received friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Glen A. Buchholz to The Cherokee County Sharing Center, PO Box 692, Murphy, NC 28906.
