Katherine Jones Sudderth, 95, of Murphy died Monday, October 29, 2012 in a Murphy medical center. She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. She had worked at Murphy Elementary School for 14 years, retiring in 1984. Katherine was a member of the Cherokee County Retired Personnel. She was also a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Murphy where she was superintendent of Sunday School, secretary of the Senior Missionary Circle, and vice-president of Women’s Auxiliary of Waynesville District Association.

She was the daughter of the late John and Janie Powell Jones and the wife of the late Frank Sudderth Jr., who died October 19, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Burgess and an infant sister; and five brothers, Willard Jones, John Ed Jones, Roy Jones, Fred Jones, and Bobby Jones.

Surviving are a sister, Helen Jones of Andrews; several nieces and nephews; and a lifetime friend, Bessie Carter.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 2 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. John Paul Webb, Anthony F. Sweat, Bryan Sutton, and Louis Grant officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Michael, Jeff, and Chris Jones, Billie Bo Sutton, and Kevin and Scott Allen. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Jones, John Snow III, Ervin Brown, and Ernest Sutton.

The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
