Ray Waldroup, 74, of Culberson died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of Fannin County, GA but had lived in Cherokee County for most of his life. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. Ray was of the Baptist faith.
He was the son of the late Boyce and Louise Brown Waldroup. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Les Paul and Rex Waldroup.
Surviving is his wife, Sue Franklin Waldroup; three daughters, Elaine Taylor and husband Eugene of Andrews, Cynthia Louise Trull and husband Dude of Murphy, and Terrie Dale Hogsed and husband Bruce of Morganton, GA; two sons, Ricky and Charlie Waldroup both of Culberson; three sisters, Deloris and Hilda Taylor both of Bryson City, and Geraldine Sword of Hayesville; four half-sisters, Joyce, Wanda, Teresa, and Vivian and two half-brothers, Randal and Johnny Waldroup; and 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Revs. Eugene Taylor and Hoyt Brown officiating. Interment was in the Waldroup Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Waldroup, Ricky Sutton, Daniel Clark, Charleston Ray Waldroup, C.L. Franklin, Tim Ballew, and Josh Waldroup.
The family received friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
