He married Malinda Lou Smith in 1956, Nancy Julia Myers in 1966, and remarried Malinda Lou Smith in 1998. He attended Murphy High School through 1954, and graduated in 1955 from Berea Foundation School in Berea, KY. He attended Berea College the following year, where he and Malinda met. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy Reserve in 1961. He retired from Inland Steel Company (ArcelorMittal Steel) in 1997 after 40 years of service. He was a security guard for Hess Detective Agency in Griffith, IN throughout the 1970’s.
He moved to northern Indiana in 1956, living in Whiting and Hammond, IN. He moved to Noblesville, IN in 2008, where he and his wife resided with their daughter and her family.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1966, his mother in 1980, his daughter, Katrina Elaine (Foster) Spoor in 2005, and his great-granddaughter Kyra Katrina Compion in 2011.
He is survived by his wife Malinda; his daughters Deborah Foster (Gregory) Francis of Noblesville, and Kasandra Kay Foster (Eric) Shawver of Aurora, CO, and his son-in-law Darrell Wayne (Katrina) Spoor of Crown Point, IN; his grandchildren, Joshua Foster and Isaac Scott Francis, Eric Kyle and Elaina Blair Foster Shawver, Richard LeRoy and Joe Anthony Compion of Bloomington, IN, and Dakota Wade, David Darrell Xavier, and Alexander Quinten Spoor; his brother Robert Edward (Patricia) Foster; and his niece and nephew, Nicole Foster (Ronald) Ice and Jonathan Edward (Nichole) Foster of Marietta, GA.
He was loved beyond his ability to comprehend. He had the capacity for kindness and humor, and walked with the Lord as best as he could. He taught his daughters to love the Lord, that their integrity was their dearest possession and the only thing in this life they have control of, and to be proud of their Cherokee heritage. He was a First Decendent of the Cherokee Nation. It was a great disappointment to him that he could not be considered a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. We are comforted by the knowledge that he is in Heaven with Jesus, and with all of his loved ones who passed into Glory before he did.
