Louise Mauney DeHart, 91, departed for her heavenly home Thursday, October 17, 2013 while surrounded by her loving family.

 

A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Pauline McGuire Mauney. She was a graduate of Cecil’s Business College in Asheville. Her professional career included employment in the business office of Providence Hospital, office manager to Dr. Helen Wells, secretary to the Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools, and later secretary to the district engineer of NC Department of Transportation in Murphy and Franklin.

 

Mrs. DeHart was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Murphy as well as the Murphy Chapter No. 10, Order of the Eastern Star.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vinson DeHart; and her sister, Rebecca Mauney Caldwell.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Jackie) Wayman and Ann (Jerry) Owenby all of Murphy, and a son, Russell (Gina) Caldwell of Denver, Colorado; three grandsons, Timothy Hughes, Stuart Wayman, and Joseph Caldwell; six granddaughters, Laurie Penn, Carrie Guthrie, Amy Coffey, Katherine McAndrew, Jennifer Metcalfe, and Mary Caldwell; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 4:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the First Baptist Church, Murphy with the Rev. Dick Stillwell officiating. Interment was in  Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stuart Wayman, Nathan Hughes, Chase Penn, Jacob Scott, Kacey Coffey, and Keith Zimmerman.  Honorary pallbearers were Joseph Caldwell, Brandon Guthrie, and Ward Metcalfe.

 

The family received friends from 2-3:45 Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, Murphy prior to the services.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Louise Mauney DeHart to the First Baptist Church, Murphy, 517 Hiwassee Street, Murphy, NC 28906.

 

Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy in charge of all arrangements.

I am sorry for your loss, I thought the world of your grandmother. She always looked after us when we were kids and played together. I remeber she was always quick with a bag of Fritos and a Coke when we would show up on the front porch of her house.
