Aston “Tom” Curtis, 94, of Andrews passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Tom was a native of Cherokee County, but lived in Stanley, NC for 50 years before returning to Andrews in 1994. He was a master carpenter. Tom was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He was a loving father and grandfather.
He was the son of the late Victor Claude and Amelia Ledford Curtis; the step-son of the late Cora Hicks Curtis; and the husband of the late Louise Jones Curtis, who died December 14, 1992. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Curtis Smith; an infant son, Christopher Curtis; three brothers, Manvers, Forest Denton, and Harold Curtis; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Spargo.
Surviving are six daughters, Yvonne “Bonnie” Otten and husband, Tom of Supply, NC, Brenda Frye and husband, John, Sandra Gail Martin of Charlotte, NC, Charlene Guye of Gastonia, NC, Vickie Rimmer and husband, Keith of Vale, NC, and Sharon Calo and husband, Steve of Denver, NC; two sons, Jerry Curtis and wife, Joyce, and Larry Curtis all of Stanley; a sister, Sue Queen and husband, Kenneth of Andrews; a half-sister, Claudia Jean Matheson and husband, Wallace of Andrews; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many great great and great great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 12, 2013 in Valleytown Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Curtis officiating. Nephews served as pallbearers.
