Paul “Brownie” Parker, 83, of Andrews died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in an Andrews care facility. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. He had served in the United States Marine Corps. Brownie retired in 1987 from The Lee Company with over 30 years of service. He had served on the Andrews Town Board. He was a member of the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department and the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529 and was a Shriner. Brownie was also a member of the Andrews First Baptist Church.


He was the son of the late Frank and Hattie Everette Arrowood Parker. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Love; and four brothers, John, Kyle, Rhuell, and Robert Parker.


Surviving are his wife, Katie Passmore Parker; two daughters, Pamela James and husband, Audy of Marble, and Paula Parker of Andrews; a sister, Earlene Graves of Murphy; two brothers, Earl “Muss” Parker of Andrews, and George Parker of Murphy; and four grandchildren, Andy and Ashley James, and William and Grayson Parker.


Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 30 in the Andrews First Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Bobo officiating. Interment was in Valleytown Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529.  Masons served as pallbearers - Jeff Clark, Mark Parker, Bobby Welch, Josh Fulford, Sidney May, and Charles McCowan.


The family received friends from 9:30 – 10:45 Friday morning at the Andrews First Baptist Church prior to the services.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Paul “Brownie” Parker to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

I was so sorry to learn about Brownie's death. But, I was glad that I had a chance at Valley View to socialize with him and his family. Especially to you, Paula and Pam, my thoughts are with you.

Aunt Jane, Cousin Austin and I, Cousin Debbie and Henry are thinking of you all. I personally didn't know Brownie well, but Jane, Austin,and Debbie have fond Memories and wonderful stories to tell. Paula, So sorry to hear about your Dad. He was such a fine person. I remember how he doted on the twins and how much he helped with them. I will be thinking of you all.

Wonderful memories of Brownie. Talked to me often about my direction in life in my teen years. May God receive him with open arms as he will fill the seat of glory with pride and joy.
