Shirley Doreen Brown, 93, of Hayesville, formerly of St. Joseph, MO, died Friday, August 23, 2013 in a Blairsville GA hospital. She was born September 17, 1919 in Wagner, SD, but had lived in St. Joseph, MO most of her life before moving to Hayesville in 2005 to be closer to her daughter. She was a homemaker and she also retired from K-Mart in 1985 from the personnel department.
Shirley loved her family and the time they shared together. She enjoyed all kinds of flowers and genealogy research.
She was the daughter of the late Ray Gilbert and Blanche Walker Greer and the wife of the late Howard Edward Brown, who died July 3, 1988. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Greer, Virginia Wald, and June Armstrong.
Surviving are her daughter, Judy Hawkins and husband, Leroy of Hayesville; a brother, Homer Greer of Huntington Valley, PA; three granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; and many family and friends.
A celebration of life was held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, August 28 at Gladden Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Burial was in King Hill Cemetery.
Public visitation and family receiving hours were from 1:00-2:30 PM Wednesday at Gladden Stamey Funeral Home prior to the services.
