Wilbert G. Moss, 89, of Hayesville died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in a Murphy medical center. He was a native of Clay County, but had lived in Gwinnett County, GA many years before moving back to Clay County in 2012. Wilbert was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre. He retired after several years with General Motors. He was a member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge No. 166. Wilbert attended Marshall’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Roscoe Virgil and Bertha Gribble Moss and the husband of the late Jean Rogers Moss, who died June 16, 2012. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kerry Lynn Moss; and three sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are a sister, Joyce Allison of Young Harris, GA; three brothers, Lawrence and Huey Moss both of Dacula, GA, and Kenneth Moss of Hayesville; two grandchildren, Megan Marie Moon and Gregory Scott Moss; and three great grandchildren, Connor, Colin, and Sophia.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 16 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Revs. Dwight Moss and Jackie Sellers officiating. Interment was in Marshall’s Chapel United Methodist Cemetery with military and Masonic graveside rites. Pallbearers were Phillip and Jerry Moss, Keith, Kevin, and Bobby Kitchens, and Ken Gittens.
The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
