Clinton L. Payne, 90, of Murphy died Tuesday, August 6, 2013. He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. Clinton retired after 29 years as an iron worker and then worked in maintenance for seven years at Copper Basin Hospital. He was a member of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge No. 426 and the Local 387 in Atlanta. He was a member of the River Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening.
He was the son of the late William H. and Arminda Owenby Payne. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Michael Payne.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna J. Stiles and husband, Grady of Hiawassee, GA and Teresa Wagner of Kennesaw, GA; a special niece whom he raised, Paula Keener of Acworth, GA; a sister, Alice L. Payne of Jasper, GA; a brother, Albert Payne of Turtletown, TN; a daughter-in-law, Nina Payne of Calhoun, GA; six grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 9 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Thomas J. Ham officiating. Interment was in River Hill Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Montgomery Masonic Lodge No. 426. Pallbearers were Greg Stiles, Chris Simpson, Jason Keener, Joe Walraven, and Bryson and Blake Hamby.
The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
