Barbara Jean Garrett, 76, of Hayesville died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in Clay County Care Center.  She was a native of Cherokee County, but had lived in Clay County most of her life. Barbara was a graduate of Fruitland Bible College. She had worked for Dunoco as a seamstress and retired from Hayesville Child Development, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Moss Memorial Baptist Church. Barbara loved to crochet and quilt.

 

She was the daughter of the late Euclid Elihue and Bertha Beatrice Price Bruce and the wife of the late Richard Clyde Garrett, who died April 13, 1998. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Denise Shelton and husband, Rev. Charles Shelton of Hayesville; a son, Richard Stanley Garrett of Murphy; two sisters, Frances Dailey of Ducktown, TN and Jennette Radford of Gastonia; two brothers, Charles Bruce of South Carolina and Tim Bruce of Cleveland, TN; six grandchildren, Tessa Sellers, Carissa Shelton, Marissa Peck, Joshua Garrett, Penny Postell, and Kayla Garrett Horton; and nine great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 12 in the Moss Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Shelton and Eddie Duckworth officiating. Interment was in church cemetery. Pallbearers were Floyd Phillips, Derick Tilley, Jeff Kimsey, Allan Nichols, Jeff Roach, and Mike Dalton.

 

The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville where the body was until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.

 

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Barbara Jean Garrett to the Moss Memorial Cemetery Fund, PO Box 1198, Hayesville, NC 28904.

Dearest family, Please know that we are thinking of you during this difficult time. Although we didn't have the privilege of personally knowing Mrs. Garrett, we know she must of been very proud of you - her precious family.
