Hubert Harris, 88, of Hayesville passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 in an Asheville hospital. He was a native of Mineral Bluff, GA. He and his family spent his working career throughout the United States with Guy F. Atkins and Clement Brothers Construction working on many Hydroelectric Dams. He retired from Clement Brothers and moved to Clay County in 1985. He was a member of the Pamaria Masonic Lodge in Peak, SC. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and wildlife throughout his life.
He was the son of the late Hobert and Myrtle Earley Harris. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth; and three brothers, Harold, James, and Gerald.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Hassie Harris; two daughters, Janie Greene and husband, Larry of Oxford, GA, and Judy Phillips and husband, Larry of Cashiers, NC; two sisters, Betty Jo and Tootsie; a brother, Hobert Lewis Harris Jr.; five grandchildren, Ken and Tom Greene and Mica, Katelyn, and Ashley Phillips; and two great grandchildren, Walker and Coy Greene.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Jacob Kyker officiating. Interment was in Eagle Fork Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fletcher Bradley, Alvin Maney, Daniel Davenport, Rex Patterson, Chester Hogsed, and Harold Gilliland.
The family received friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
